Natural Light - You will notice that the new dome above the altar allows for more light to enter the church. The light now comes straight down flooding the sanctuary area.
Altar Canopy - In order to accent the canopy above the altar I chose to paint it 2 shades of brown that accent the oak trim in the church.
Devotional Shrines - I wanted to accent the devotional shrines in the church. So we painted an accent color behind the statues and added strips of oak to frame the statues. Then painting of the canopy, the shrine accent painting, and wood trim were done by Jim Legault.
Chapels and Sacristy - The chapels and sacristy plaster damage has been repaired and painted.
Floor, Pews and Kneelers cleaned and repaired - The tile floors in the church were steamed cleaned and sealed. A crew of parishioner’s helped to vacuum the chairs and wipe off the wood work. The hymn rack holders were stained and cleaned. The pews and kneelers were cleaned.
The Angel Banner - You will notice the beautiful angel banner hanging in the sanctuary. It is in the Byzantine style. The banner will be a permanent fixture in the sanctuary adding beauty, reminding us of the sanctity of the church, which is the House of God and Gate of Heaven on earth. The angel banner was a gift from the St. Catherine Laboure Women’s Guild.
Witness to Hope Campaign Funds - The cupola replacement project was funded by the funds accumulated through the Witness to Hope Campaign. I am so very grateful for those who contributed to this capital fund drive which has also allowed us to repair and replace sections of the asphalt and concrete around the church and parking lots. If you are able to complete you Witness to Hope pledge, it will allow us to do other repairs to our 25 year old parish facility.
Fr. Tim
The bill has been paid
This week we formally completed the concrete and asphalt project funded by your Witness to Hope gifts by paying the second half of the bill that was owed to the asphalt company. It was a year ago that I signed the contract with McKearney Asphalt and Sealing, Inc. from Lansing. Despite all of the problems that occurred, they never complained when they were asked to do things over. I am glad that it is finally completed and that it looks great. The total cost of the asphalt and concrete work: $147.155.50. Your generosity has made this possible. Thank you!
The asphalt that was laid in the fall is not acceptable. There are pools of water that are collecting in many areas. Alan Olson, from the Diocese of Lansing has been our advocate on the project. He met with representatives of McKearney Asphalt of Lansing to find a solution to our problem. According to Mr. Olson, in the spring, a great deal of the current asphalt will be milled up and reinstalled. The work might also entail the removal and re-installation of the new curbing around the flag pole area. We paid half of the bill prior to the beginning of the project and will pay nothing further until the Diocese signs off on the work. This delay in paying the remaining portion of the bill will give us an opportunity to accrue more funds in our Witness to Hope pledge account., which will reduce the amount of our loan form the Diocese. I encourage you to keep up with your Witness to Hope pledges. I will keep you informed when I hear anything further.
